Ribera del Jucar wines

The Ribera del Júcar Protected Designation of Origin was born as a joint initiative of a group of wine-making cooperatives and private wineries in the province of Cuenca to actively collaborate in the production and marketing of quality wines. For this, these wineries have made a great investment effort in new technologies to produce high quality wines and the winegrowers in the conversion of their vineyards into complementary varieties to the traditional ones such as Bobal, Tempranillo or Moscatel de Grano Menudo.
This young D.O.P. It was created in 2003 and has an area of ??more than nine thousand hectares of vineyards, located in the Cuenca municipalities of Casas de Benítez, Casas de Fernando Alonso, Casas de Guijarro, Casas de Haro, El Picazo, Pozoamargo and Sisante.
The production area of the D.O.P. Ribera del Júcar, is characterized by its horizontality, being constituted by a plain on which some buttes rest.
The grape varieties that are included in the denomination are in red: Cencibel or Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Bobal, Petit Verdot.
