The Losada Winery
The winery is located in the center of the geographical triangle formed by Cacabelos, Villafranca, and Toral de los Vados, providing optimal access to the area where most of the quality grapes of Bierzo are grown. The winery, located opposite the Castro de la Ventosa, an archaeologically and historically significant site unique in the Bierzo region, is currently undergoing consolidation of its winding wall. This wall has served as inspiration and a key element in the design and construction of the winery building. Thus, the building emerges from the terrain and blends seamlessly with it.
Losada Designation of Origin
It belongs to the Bierzo DO. The Bierzo region is located in the northwest of the province of León, in northern Spain, bordering the provinces of Ourense, Lugo, and Asturias. It covers an area of approximately 3,000 square kilometers.
It has a system of smallholdings due to the fact that properties have been passed down from parents to children through inheritance, and with each transfer, the farms are further subdivided. In this respect, it is very similar to what occurs in Burgundy, for example.
It has a gently rolling topography that allows for distinct differences between the vineyards with the best sun exposure and those with less, each with the potential to produce a different wine.
Average altitude of approximately 650m above sea level. Its soil is composed of a mixture of clay, limestone, quartzite, and slate.
