In 2000, a group of growers in the community requested the creation of the mention of wine from Castilla y León to designate their wines, citing the need to channel much of the wine produced in these lands and stock up on grape Castilla y León, ensuring price stability and quality of grapes and wines. Wines made under the seal of Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León have clean aromas, francs, unoxidized (except in cases where the wines have undergone oxidative aging). The wines aged in oak must remain a minimum of three months in barrel, and must have own aroma and taste of that maturation. The wines covered by the mention of wine from Castilla y León may only be processed and / or aged in warehouses located in the territory of the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León and grapes from vineyards registered in the Register of the Ministry Vitícola of Agriculture and Livestock of the Junta de Castilla y León.
